Contemporary/Lyrical

This mixed style genre of dance begins with a full body warm that includes stretching, floor work, and technique work covering basics. These are done to prevent injuries, prepare for choreography, build flexibility, strength, and fine tune fundamentals. These exercises serve the purpose of instilling good habits and muscle memory to nurture proper development and beyond this, sustainability. Class continues with moves” across the floor” ( progressions) that teach movement quality and that connect warm up into a taught combination done to music. Music is chosen with the intention to help students connect and explore both technical dance movements and theatre like, metaphorical gestures that are common to the human experience. Personal expression and nuance in performance quality, musical interpretation, and artistic choices are encouraged.
Dress Code: Bare Feet.
Tap
Monday 6:00-7:00pm
$85 per month or $200 Term
This percussive rhythmical form of dance is taught in both the Broadway theatrical style (show tap) & in rhythm based percussive beats. Warm up covers basics and prepares dancers to learn a combination set to enhance music, or to create a mood. Beyond learning steps from the tap dance vocabulary, dancers are instructed to create proper toning of sounds, through the listening, application, and practice of repetitive rhythmical patterns.
Dress Code: Tap Shoes.
Yoga Vinyasa Flow
Monday 7:00-8:30pm
$95 per month or $250 Term
This flow style offering is a vinyasa style class that is suited for all levels of experience. With easy to follow guided flows that connect various postures and poses with the breath, participants benefit by developing greater mental clarity, reducing stress, as well as improved flexibility, strength, and balance. Each class concludes with relaxation techniques, as well as a brief meditation.
Suggested Attire: Bare feet. No- restrictive, comfortable clothing that has some "give".
Mats, blocks & straps are provided.
Ballet I
Tuesday 6:15-7:30pm
$90 per month or $225 Term
This classically based class is molded for students to learn a solid foundation of ballet technique. The Ballet Vocabulary, constructed from the idea of turn-out, and taught by learning exercises at the barre and in the center, to classical music. Students learn steps in a repetitive series of barre exercises, followed by a center practice. These include placement combinations, adagios, petit & grand allegros. Emphasis is placed on safe/correct placement, movement quality, musicality and proper technique. Ballet I is open to all levels, including the beginner.
Dress Code: Ladies: Leotard. Pink Tights. Pink Ballet Slippers. Hair In Bun. Ballet Skirts okay.
Gentlemen: T-shirt. Leggings. Ballet Slippers.
Theatre Jazz
Tuesday 7:30-8:45pm
$90 per month or $225 Term
Theatre Jazz is a beginner/intro level technique class that teaches the fundamentals of jazz technique combined with elements of performance based/theatrical dance. These elements include pantomime, working w/ props, improvisation, vocal work, partnering, and acting. Progressions and Combinations will be taught to music from both classical and contemporary Theatre productions.
Dress Code: Black Dance Leotard w/ Black Leggings or Convertible Dance Tight. Black Jazz Shoes (slip on).
Hip Hop Fitness
Wednesday 7:00-8:00pm
$85 per month or $140 Term
This genre explores many elements of hip hop dance ranging from commercial dance/music video, club house hop, vogue, funk, Afro-Cuban, Latin, old-school, break dance, and freestyle. Warm-ups are given to prepare the muscles and develop the physical awareness needed to execute each move. Steps are broken down and taught with clarity and patience. A combination is danced that integrates these steps w/ individuality.
Dress Code: Supportive Sneakers.
Ballet II
Thursday 6:00-7:30pm
$95 per month or $225 Term
This classically based class is molded for students to gain or improve upon a solid foundation of ballet technique. Dancers learn a repetitive series of barre exercises, followed by a center practice that develop strength, control, balance, flexibility and grace. These include adagios, turning combinations, as well as petit & grand allegros. Emphasis is placed on establishing or re-working technique with safe/correct placement, movement quality, and enhanced musicality. Ballet II is for dancers with experience.
Dress Code: Ladies: Leotard. Pink Tights. Pink Ballet Slippers. Hair In Bun. Skirts Okay.
Gentlemen: T-shirt. Leggings. Ballet Slippers. Dance Belt.
Modern I
Thursday 7:30-9:00pm
$95 per month or $225 Term
Modern I is a MIXED level class. Done in bare feet, this now classic dance genre embraces movements that specifically use the body in a non-conventional, articulated way that explores traveling through different levels in the physical space, Dancers learn to use the body in ways that bring control and connection towards the earth, with a focus on moving horizontally through space.
Dress Code: Leotard / Convertible, dance tights or leggings / Hair should be pulled back, out of face.
No footwear required. Dancers work in bare feet
Pointe
Saturday 3:00-4:00pm
$85 per month or $225 Term
This class is for the experienced dancer w/ approval from Director. An extension of ballet technique, dancing en pointe requires an understanding of placement, sturdy legs, strong and flexible feet, and patience. Short, repetitive exercises at the barre and center are given to build (or rebuild) strength, placement, and control. Class progresses into learning repertoire, original choreography, and partnering work.
Dress Code: Dance Leotard. Pink Tights. Pointe Shoes w/ sewn ribbons and elastics. Hair In Bun.
Yoga Dance
NOT OFFERED SPRING TERM 2025
Yoga Dance is a wellness class suitable for all levels of experience.
This cross-training class combines elements of an asana yoga practice, along with movements taken from classical and contemporary dance techniques. Done to music, class consists of yoga warm- ups, stretching, a series of flowing postures, and Savasana. Class encourages self-expression and individual artistry. Benefits of this class include increased control, balance, flexibility, stamina, grace and mental focus.
Suggested Attire:
Bare feet. Non restrictive, comfortable clothing that hassome "give".
I highly recommend Marcus’s adult dance classes. He’s skilled and so knowledgeable with various dance forms. He also takes time to break down technique to help the raw beginner dancer, as well as the seasoned dancer, understand the steps and combinations. They’re fun and inspiring!
