Marcus Rogers Dance Company would like to extend a thank you to all who came out to “Starry Starry Night”. We are grateful to be able to dance for you.
Directed and Choreographed by Marcus Rogers, “Starry Starry Night” will present MRDC repertoire, as well as new works danced by Marcus Rogers Dance Company.
Told through tap rhythms, contemporary movement, classical ballet and theatre dance, Rogers has put together a program to shed light on the Battle of Struggle vs. Resilience that faces the human race.
The theme of this show was inspired by Dutch painter Vincent Van Gogh, who’s lifestyle and dedication to his artistic endeavors embodied this idea.
The pas de deux, “Triangles and Scars” a duet danced by Judy McGlone and Rogers will make it’s debut as a finished piece. Danced to a musical selection from the hauntingly beautiful “Schindlers List” Movie Score by John Williams, this presentation will pay tribute to all victims and survivors of the Holocaust. More specifically, this piece intends to educate viewers about the suffrage faced by gay people during World War II, who were labeled by the mark of an upside down pink triangle.
“Sun Flowers and Emeralds” a new ballet, danced by Sarah Mbango, Judy McGlone and Marion Zegers will illustrate dancers sketching circular motions, repeatedly. These movements are reminiscent of Van Gogh’s trademark repetitious pattern of swirls, which represent his expression and interpretation of stars.
Returning to dance with MRDC is Theresa Gratton, who will perform once again with Rogers in the duet “Serenity”, a piece that was created in 2018 for a Dancers Against Cancer Benefit Show. With music by David Phelps, this choreography offers a message of hope. With Simple and strong movements woven into the notes, this piece hopes to symbolize the textures of love that define serenity.
I highly recommend Marcus’s adult dance classes. He’s skilled and so knowledgeable with various dance forms. He also takes time to break down technique to help the raw beginner dancer, as well as the seasoned dancer, understand the steps and combinations. They’re fun and inspiring!
